Through the efforts of residence of Kokoda Ave, Turramurra funds were raised for the construction of new memorial to be located at cnr of Kokoda Ave and Clissold Rd Turramurra. Kokoda Memorial Foundation were approached to  built the memorial which they accepted. Local residence, members of KMF and memorial designer Ross Bastian had input into the final design.

Work began in August 2006, led by Eric Winn with the foundation, erection of the core body of the memorial. A jar of soil from the Kokoda Track was placed in the memorial to form a spiritual connection between the memorial and the Track. The single top piece was layed on top followed by the plaques and centre stone. The stone has a sand blasted profile of the track and soldier. Once the memorial was completed and local council completed the associated landscaping the Kokoda Ave Memorial committee organise its dedication. Retired General Sir Peter Cosgrove led ceremony with local community, media and members of Kokoda Memorial Foundation.
