Mount 25lb Field Gun
It was decided that a fitting compliment to the Owers’ Corner Memorial Archway would be WWII era 25 Pounder as used on the ‘Track’. After a thorough search the exact type was found at the Australian Defence Industries (ADI) facility at Lithgow. Through the efforts of KMF the gun was donated by ADI for eventual display at Owers’ Corner, PNG.
The gun was refurbished by Thales Industries at Garden Island and new tyres fitted at Jacks Tyres. The gun was loaded in a Royal Australian Air Force C-130 Hercules at RAAF Richmond Air Base and flown to Jackson Airport, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. There it was off loaded onto a truck for its 50 kilometre journey to Owers’ Corner Kairuku-Hiri. The gun was placed on a concrete pad with colorbond roof awning.
